Exhibition and parallel conferences

This exhibition is born from the celebration of the Silk Museums International Conference organized by the College of the Greater Art of Silk with the sponsorship of the Valencian Tourism Agency, an event that takes place in Valencia from the 15th to the 17th November 2018.

The activity is accompanied by a cycle of lectures and a sample of materials representative of the museum and liturgical clothing. We present a tour with some of the most significant silk museums in the world. From the Canary Islands to Japan, we detected the vitality of the Silk Road concept, an expression coined by the German geographer Ferdinand von Richthofen in 1877. The importance of the silk heritage is reflected in the museums created in all countries of the journey between East and West. We offer a panorama of these specialized silk museums, highlighting their typologies (architectural spaces, machinery and tools for the manufacture of silk, recovery of heritage through fabrics and clothing, effort to transmit traditions through education, or the value of ecosystems historical, artistic, political and economic). The development of commercial and cultural exchanges is still alive with the Silk Road promoted by UNESCO. It is the museums, as cultural and educational institutions, that keep alive the spirit of dialogue, collaboration and cultural transmission.
